I am honoured to be given the opportunity to become a parent governor at Islington Futures Federation. As a mother of two daughters studying at EGA, one son studying at Copenhagen Primary School and one son who will be starting Beacon High Secondary School in the academic year 2020-2021, I believe that I can bring both a parent perspective and relevant skills and experience to role of parent Governor.
Originally from Somalia, I have been living in London since 1994, graduated from City University in 2001 with BSc Honours in Business Computing Systems. I have worked in different fields as an Accounts Manager, Systems Analyst and Bilingual Interpreter /Advocate.
I have also been working in the voluntary sector for the past 15 years having founded Fit Women Group (a community-based non-for-profit organisation that aims to improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged women residing in Caledonian road, Islington and surrounding area through the provision of recreational and sports activities that cater for their needs). I have hands on experience in developing and managing community projects. I have been volunteering for Copenhagen Primary School for one year and assisted with fund-raising and project management. I have a great inter-personality and my passion is to make a positive difference, I hope to utilise my skills and knowledge to support the school and the Federation to ensure that the children thrive both academically and socially.
